About

Hi, I’m Kerin. Welcome to my mid-life climate crisis!

Over the last couple of years my climate change anxiety has reached a level where there is just no other choice but to do something about it. I’m not talking just separating recyclables, I’m talking something bigger, something more.

I read somewhere that the best way to tackle an issue you care about is to figure out a way to channel your own strengths and passions into doing something about it.

Well, I make things. I love making things and, in fact, I need to make things to maintain my mental health. This, combined with my distaste for waste, has lead to me becoming a border-line hoarder of stuff to make things out of.

Yes, I have a string collection. And some storage issues.

Over the years, people around me have started offering me this and that (“They throw out this at my work – if I bring it home instead, could you make something out of it?” “I’ve just got my chairs recovered and there’s heaps of leftover fabric – do you want it?”). I usually say yes because I can’t help myself.

I think most people hate seeing things go to waste. It kind of feels dirty or something. Especially the obscene amounts of waste generated by manufacturing and over-consumption.

So, I am channeling my strength and passion for making things into Remaki. I hope that the content of this site can inspire you to rethink waste, try a few DIYs or participate/initiate a workshop where we can get together, have fun, learn stuff and ease our climate anxiety just a touch. And maybe share what you’ve learned and inspire someone else. Thus, the world is changed. (A bit slowly, but it’s all we got, right? Our little drops in the ocean.)

I think it’s a bargain the planet wants us to make. What do you reckon?

Thanks for visiting and may the Power of Craft Be With You.

xx

Remaki and Rebecca

If you want to buy my stuff you will need to travel to Hokitika, New Zealand! This is my home town, and the current home of my incredible, creative, beautiful sister and her family. There she has a little shop front at 46 Revell Street that she opens when she feels like it / it seems like a good idea. Which I love. We are definitely artists, not business people.
